Mental health matters: staying supported and engaged in your learning

Mental health matters

.

Learning new skills and qualifications can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming at times. With more than 730,000 apprentices currently in training across England, many experience moments of stress, low mood, or pressure that can affect focus and motivation.

The good news is that you don’t have to face these challenges alone, early support can help you manage pressures and continue progressing in your programme.

Common challenges learners face

.

It’s normal to encounter difficulties during your learning journey, such as:

  • Feeling stressed or overwhelmed
  • Juggling work, family, and study commitments
  • Anxiety about performance or the future
  • Difficulty staying motivated or focused

If these challenges aren’t addressed early, they can make it harder to stay engaged. But with the right support, learners can develop helpful strategies to manage stress and continue making progress.

How t2 group can help you

.

We have a fully trained Mental Health First Aid team dedicated to supporting learners through challenges, and all of our trainers and tutors are familiar with our mental health policies and procedures.

This means that every point of contact, from your tutor to support staff, we ensure helping you feel safe, understood, and supported.

Our team can:

  • Listen and provide a friendly, confidential space to talk about any concerns or pressures you’re facing
  • Offer practical coping strategies for managing stress and maintaining motivation
  • Signpost additional resources for further guidance
  • Reassure you that support is always available, so you never feel alone while learning

The most important first step is simply talking about it. By reaching out early, you can address challenges before they affect your learning, stay engaged with your programme, and build the confidence to achieve your goals.

Are you a learner that needs support? Visit our Mental Health support page or contact our team. We’re here to help you stay on track.

How employers can support

.

Employers play a key role in helping learners stay engaged and succeed. A supportive culture and line management can make a real difference in preventing stress or challenges from escalating into disengagement. Employers can help by:

  • Encouraging open conversations: create an environment where learners feel comfortable talking about stress, workload, or personal pressures. Early discussions can prevent challenges from becoming overwhelming
  • Recognising early signs: managers who spot changes in motivation, attendance, or confidence can gently check in and signpost learners to support before they consider taking a break
  • Raising concerns with their apprenticeship provider: employers can escalate any well-being or engagement issues to the learner’s apprenticeship key contact or tutor. This ensures learners get professional guidance quickly and can access the right resources to stay on programme
  • Promoting well-being resources: Make sure learners know about the Mental Health First Aid team, internal policies, and external resources available to support them
