Group Financial Controller

Finance Leadership and Team Management:

Provide strong leadership across the group finance function, setting high standards of control, accountability, and performance while developing a capable and responsive finance team.

Key Activities:

• Leadership of the Finance Function: Lead, mentor, and develop the group finance team, ensuring clear accountability, strong technical capability, and a culture of continuous improvement
• Control Environment: Maintain a robust financial control environment across the group, ensuring policies, procedures, and delegated authorities are embedded and consistently applied
• Performance and Delivery: Drive high-quality and timely delivery from the finance function, balancing technical accuracy with commercial responsiveness
• Capability Building: Identify development needs within the team and support succession planning, training, and capability enhancement
• Senior Stakeholder Engagement: Build effective working relationships with directors and operational leaders, acting as a trusted finance lead and providing constructive challenge where appropriate

Financial Control, Reporting and Group Consolidation:

Take ownership of the group’s financial reporting and control framework, ensuring the integrity of financial information and the timely production of accurate internal and external reporting.

Key Activities:

• Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting across the group
• Group Consolidation: Lead the consolidation of group results, ensuring consistency, transparency, and technical accuracy across multiple entities where applicable
• Management Accounts and Insight: Deliver high-quality management accounts, variance analysis, and commentary to support senior management and board-level decision-making
• Balance Sheet Integrity: Ensure rigorous balance sheet control, reconciliations, and review processes are maintained across the group
• Cash and Working Capital Oversight: Support effective cash flow management, treasury administration, and working capital control to protect liquidity and financial resilience
• Systems and Process Optimisation: Drive improvements in finance systems, controls, and reporting processes to enhance quality, efficiency, and scalability

Planning, Analysis and Business Partnering:

Support the wider business through robust financial planning, performance analysis, and commercial insight, helping leaders make informed and financially sound decisions.

Key Activities:

• Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead and coordinate budgeting, forecasting, and reforecasting processes, ensuring assumptions are robust and aligned to business priorities
• Performance Analysis: Provide clear and insightful analysis of financial performance, risks, opportunities, and trends across the group
• Business Partnering: Partner with operational and senior leadership teams to improve financial understanding, strengthen accountability, and support performance improvement
• Commercial Evaluation: Provide financial input into investment decisions, strategic initiatives, and business cases, offering both insight and challenge
• Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve financial planning, reporting, and operational processes in support of business growth and control

Audit, Compliance and Governance:

Ensure the group maintains the highest standards of financial governance, statutory compliance, and audit readiness, with a proactive approach to risk management and control improvement.

Key Activities:

• Audit Leadership: Lead the preparation for internal and external audit activity, ensuring the business is well prepared and that audit processes run efficiently
• Statutory and Tax Compliance: Oversee compliance with statutory reporting obligations, tax requirements, and relevant financial regulations across the group
• Internal Controls and Policy Framework: Maintain and enhance financial policies, internal controls, and governance processes to support resilience and accountability
• Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate financial control risks, ensuring practical and proportionate actions are implemented
• Regulatory and Technical Developments: Keep abreast of changes in accounting standards, legislation, and reporting requirements, ensuring the group remains compliant and well controlled

A credible and capable senior finance professional who brings strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and the commercial judgement to operate effectively in a group environment and will demonstrate the following:

Essential skills & experience

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Significant senior-level experience in financial control, group reporting, consolidation, and statutory accounts preparation
• Strong technical understanding of financial controls, month-end and year-end close, balance sheet management, and audit requirements
• Proven experience of leading and developing finance teams, driving accountability, and improving performance
• Experience of working closely with senior stakeholders and presenting financial information clearly and credibly
• Strong analytical skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to translate financial information into practical insight
• Track record of strengthening financial processes, controls, and systems within a growing or evolving business
• Highly organised, detail focused, resilient, and able to manage competing priorities while delivering to deadline

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Experience within a multi-entity or group structure
• Experience supporting strategic projects, acquisitions, integrations, or business change initiatives
• Exposure to treasury, cash flow optimisation, and working capital improvement initiatives
• Advanced systems knowledge and experience of improving reporting capability through finance technology
• A proactive and commercially confident approach, with the ability to contribute beyond core financial reporting responsibilities
