Adela's story explains how an apprenticeship helped with her Healthcare Assistant Practitioner role.
Adela works as a healthcare assistant practitioner at The Check House, a nursing and residential home specialising in dementia care. In her role, she is responsible for:
- Assisting and supporting registered practitioners in all areas of service delivery
- Establishing and conducting routine patient monitoring
- Assisting with comprehensive patient assessments
- Coordinating care, including managing referrals to other healthcare professionals
Adela's role allows her to contribute directly to the well-being of residents while collaborating closely with the nursing team to ensure high-quality care.
Adela began her career at The Check House 12 years ago. After completing her Level 3 Health & Social Care Apprenticeship with the t2 group, she was promoted to a senior role five years later in recognition of her skills and dedication.
To further enhance her knowledge and clinical expertise, Adela enrolled in the Level 5 Healthcare Assistant Practitioner Apprenticeship. This programme has allowed her to develop advanced clinical skills, enabling her to work alongside registered nurses and deliver a higher level of care to residents.
Adela is committed to continuous professional development and plans to continue her learning journey. She shares:
"I’m excited to have the opportunity to complete the training and programmes available to me. Having worked at The Check House for almost 12 years, I truly enjoy my job and plan to stay here for the foreseeable future."
Through her training, Adela has gained greater confidence in her abilities. She feels more responsible in her role, working more independently while still collaborating closely with registered nurses.
"My training has not only increased my knowledge and skills but also boosted my confidence. I’ve learned to perform clinical tasks like taking physiological measurements, and I feel much more assured in carrying them out."
Additionally, Adela has developed a deeper understanding of person-centred care, applying this approach in her daily work and discussing best practices with her colleagues to continuously improve the quality of care provided.
Adela highly recommends a career in healthcare, emphasising the importance of compassion and a genuine desire to support others in their daily lives.
"If you're dedicated and passionate about making a difference, there are many opportunities to grow in healthcare. With hard work, you can progress in your career and see your efforts reflected in both personal and professional growth."
