About this Apprenticeship

The Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Professional Practice in Health and Social Care is designed for learners in a wide range of settings.

This Apprenticeship is designed for learners who are aspiring managers but are not yet in a leadership and management role within the health and social care sector.

Completion of this qualification will allow you to develop, deliver and maintain practice that supports the positive outcomes of individuals within your workplace/setting.

The Level 4 Professional Practice in Health and Social Care will enable you to develop and demonstrate your knowledge, understanding, behaviours, skills and practice within the context of your chosen pathway. In particular, you will be able to demonstrate that you can:

  • develop and apply knowledge, understanding and skills in your chosen pathway
  • develop and apply knowledge and understanding of theories, models and approaches applicable to your chosen pathway
  • develop and apply knowledge and understanding of how to maintain and improve outcomes for individuals within your chosen pathway
  • develop as effective and independent learners, and as critical and reflective thinkers with enquiring minds in the context of your chosen pathway
  • use an enquiring, critical approach to distinguish facts and opinions; to build arguments and make informed judgements in the context of your chosen pathway within health and social care settings/contexts
  • develop self-awareness in order to improve practice in your chosen pathway
  • develop knowledge and understanding of person/child-centred approaches across a range of settings/contexts
  • use literacy, numeracy and digital competency skills as appropriate within your role

Throughout the Level 4 Professional Practice qualification in Health and Social Care, there is a focus on how you will demonstrate your ability to support and deliver enhanced practice within a chosen pathway area.

How we deliver this programme

This programme is delivered on a one to one basis by your own dedicated Personal Development Manager.

They will meet with you every month (face to face or virtually) to provide teaching and training to help you develop new knowledge and skills and guide you through the programme.

They will then assess your competence by observing you applying the new skills at work and helping you develop a portfolio of evidence to prove you have met the requirements.

This will include a project that contains a series of written tasks, direct observation of practice and a professional discussion.

Qualifications included in this Apprenticeship

On successful completion you will achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 4 Professional Practice in Health and Social Care
  • Essential Skills in Application of Number Level 2 (if required)
  • Essential Skills in Communication Level 2 (if required)
  • Essential Skills in Digital Literacy Level 2 (optional)

To achieve the Level 4 Professional Practice in Health and Social Care qualification, you must achieve a minimum of 62 credits in total (this will depend on your chosen pathway). The mandatory group consists of units 410 and 420 across each pathway.
